Cuando navegamos por Internet gran cantidad de sitios nos envían cookies con información que quieren que se almacene en el disco duro, de manera que la próxima vez que visitemos ese mismo sitio puedan recuperarla de nuestro ordenador. De esta forma, si por ejemplo han almacenado un nombre o un ID de usuario en la cookie que se guarda en el disco la próxima vez que naveguemos por el mismo lugar sabrán que fuimos un visitante anterior y recuperarán la cookie. Como vemos, es un mecanismo de identificación y seguimiento de usuarios. Si no tenemos deshabilitadas las cookies podemos ver en todo momento qué cookies nos ha enviado cierto servidor web haciendo uso del siguiente truco en JavaScript. Escribimos el siguiente texto en la ventana de Dirección del navegador y pulsamos Enter: javascript:alert(document.cookie) Veremos que se abre una pequeña ventana en la que se listan todas las cookies que hemos recibido del sitio en cuestión.
