Acaba de ser liberada la Beta 2 del Windows Defender para ordenadores con Windows XP instalado.Windows Defender es el nombre que adoptará el Microsoft WIndows AntiSpyware el cual incluirá diversas características, como por ejemplo:
- Detección y eliminación de Spyware: Una nueva protección en tiempo real que analizará las cabeceras de los archivos residentes y de entrada y los eliminará en caso de que presenten un riesgo para el equipo. También evitará que se instale software no deseado, asi como los pop-ups en la navegación. Dispondrá de un monitor para ver la evolución de sus análisis y actuaciones.
- Interfaz rediseñada y simplificada: La interfaz ha sido rediseñada para que al usuario le resulte más facil e intuitivo realizar un escaner de su ordenador y eliminar archivos indeados y/o maliciosos. El nuevo entorno gráfico mostrará alertas en tiempo real de posibles problemas de seguridad asi como consejos y ayuda para aumentar esta.
- Protección para todos los usuarios: Windows Defender (Beta 2) ahora podrá ser ejecutado por cualquier usuario del PC, tenga o no permisos de administrador.
- Actualizaciones automáticas: El Windows Defender recibirá las actualizaciones automáticas a través de la web de Microsoft. Estas actualizarán tanto las definiciones como el propio software sin coste adicional para el usuario, es decir, de manera completamente gratuita.
- A votar, el clasifica: Una característica curiosa es que cuando Defender detecta un software no deseado en el sistema este alertará al usuario pidiendole una votación para clasificar el citado software en listas de riesgo.

- Sistemas operativos soportados: Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 y posteriores, Windows XP Service Pack 2 y posteriores y Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 y posteriores.
